Arcana

Well this week I finally took the plunge and started work on Arcana, a generic RPG fantasy game world.  I started work on this as a PBM several years ago and did a ton of work on it, but never got around to re-working  so that I could publish it.  Ya, I know, the world needs another campaign world like it needs a hole it the head, but what the hell, I’ve got the time and most of the material just has to be freshened up, so off I go…

You know what sucks about being on a time table?

Well, for one, it means the time table can move around on you, causing plans to get changed as well, such as the plan I had for updating this little blog thingie.

Ah well, such is life.

I did want to show off something though. Old PC gamers, forewarning: Your nostalgia floodgates might overflow a bit.

Phoenix Apocalypse

The sun has started to rise over the eerie sky. The year is 2984. And the moon has started a war against the earth. About 60 Years ago we created colonies and cities on the moon and they have started rebelling against our control. But before I get ahead of myself. My name is John Gromes, I'm 27 and a electric farmer from outside the old Phoenix, Arizona. I have 2700 Acres of land that I use to create electricity for most of LA and San Francisco.- Read more...

Board Games

I recently had the joy to play Nuclear War, a boardgame. It was the ultimate is "Take That!" gaming. It was a simple game with the only stategy of being the land country not nuked senseless and having population left after everyone else b lows themselves to bits. Gamed goes quickly and violently especially when I was refusing to have peace to allow propaganda cards work again,m ,it was more fun being a war-mongering fool and I managed to last until third frm the last country blown to smithereens.- Read more...

Conan O'Brien!

After a series of Dear Conan tweets I sent to @nbcconan Mr. O'Brien decided to return the favor in a very personal way.

You can watch Conan make fun of Walsh County, ND, a county that I lived in, here on Hulu. http://is.gd/13leq  I went to church in Brocket, ND while I lived outside of Lawton.  Brocket is 1,000 feet wide.

If you want to see the tweets that started this razz a ma tazz, look at my twitter page, http://www.twitter.com/prof_ebral- Read more...

Another week...

Well I did a little bit of this and that this week, working on stuff for Game Geek and Battle Axe.  Also started doing some figure painting again, got a lot of knights done for a Realms faction for Battle Axe.  Also took the family to see Land of the Lost, as it was a favorite show of mine when I was a kid.  While I’m not a Will Ferrell fan, he was ok in this and the movie was more then fun.

Wanted: pictures of your roleplaying group

Recently, a reader of my site The Escapist (www.theescapist.com) submitted an idea that I like a lot - posting pictures of gamers enjoying a good RPG or LARP on the FAQ page and various other pages, to put a human face on the hobby for the non-gamers who visit the site.

So, if you're interested in participating, and you have some good pics of you and your group playing an RPG, drop me an email at RPGadvocate/at\gmail/dot\com

Here's what I'd like to get from you:

A little this and a little of that

Well I don't know if it was the most productive week I have ever had, but i got a few things done.  Returned to the painting table this week, after a very long time, finished some figures for Battle Axe that I had started almost two or three months ago.  it was nice to sit and paint for a change, but i still not at the point where I want to sit no stop and pint like I used to do.  Don't know, some times I fall out of a hobby for a while and then fall back into it.- Read more...

GM's problems with players

As a GM you have certain expectations. the game be planed out, you challange the players and strech their abilities and tell the story of the game. But they have problems just like the players. They have to spend a lot of time planing a story line, making sure that all the players make it to the sesion on time or make it at all, and not mess up on the story and end up killing the players (a good GM doesn't kill his players but helps them succied.) so Why is it players put some much pressure on the GM?- Read more...

A Game Designer's Diary 1

Having written drafts for two novels (one which included an outline for a trilogy, including conceptual art and a great deal of world and race design work), I'm no stranger to chaining myself to a desk for long hours over a great period of time. I relish the thought of applying my creative juices to a project, pushing the envelope of what's been done, the sacred cows, and focusing on what I'm trying to accomplish and how best to do it.- Read more...
