Fat Dragon Shrine of Cthulhu

Eleven pages (plus 5 pages of instructions and the 8-page Intro to Card Modeling PDFs) for five bucks is a steal.  In truth, I only played CoC once, over twenty years ago, but still eagerly seek out anything HPL related.  Even went so far as to crank up Darkest of the Hillside Thickets’ Cthulhu Strikes Back while printing, cutting, and folding last night.  If you play CoC, this is a great set.  If you don’t play CoC this is a great set for keeping people away from your desk at work.  Let’s take a look at those components….

Jags 2

JAGS2 is a rules-mediun universal roleplaying system by Marco Chacon. It provides a nice slightly number crunchy alternative to other so-called universal gaming systems. It's cover is misleading in that it shows Tarot cards but Tarot cardd are not used in this rules system so I  note that as a cover design flaw. I really love the archetype traits (weird stuff) in this book. including Synchronicity. The enchancements and deficits are also well-written and presented.- Read more...

Many folks in the gaming community see the hobby as moving to a completely digital format. Indeed, almost all of the major publishers now make digital content available, and many focus almost all of their business on the digital market. Bloggers and fan sites create derivative works of their favorite systems and settings to share digitally online. But with Open Game Table: The Anthology of Roleplaying Game Blogs, editor Jonathan Jacobs reminds us that no matter how much we gamers use the internet to expand our gaming experience, we still want the really good stuff in print!- Read more...

Oathbound:Plains of Penance by Bastion Press for the d20 system was a great read, I loved the new player classes and monsters and really enjoyed the setting. The new species of Aurad and Tthords truly fascinated me, and one can even play an underwater adventure with a dolphin as a player character for the first time. It is a colorful and rich setting with intricate details paid to the cities histories on the Plains. Having not read the first corebook, I cannot accurately comapre it to its predecessor but it was also well-written.- Read more...

Neiyar RPG Setting d20 system

This book is excellent, a complete setting for either a game set on Neiyat Island or as a side storyline where players are stranded on this island. The game has 5 PC races, including the matrilinear Neiyar who are devotees of the threefold goddess Sophia, the Krakodons who claim descent from Dragons and the Auronne, innocent bird-like creatures.- Read more...
